The issue of unguided factionalism a threat to national Development l Article by Kumborhu
Good evening senior comrades in the columnist fraternity and thank you for your efforts in always respecting the principles of scribbling and also making time out of the busy schedules to teach we the neophyte in the territory the standard practices and rudiments of the game. With much respect, am much grateful respectfully.
We are very busy preparing to take our end of semester exams which will roll down curtains on the semester pending the birthing of a new semester God willing and am using this opportunity to wish students of coltek good luck and safe journey in advance. It's very difficult for one to do away with an act one draws pleasure from even under critical conditions and that is what has precipitated my move this evening.
My write up this evening is not targeted at anyone but hinged on an issue that is developmentally unfriendly and must be given a positive view. We are approaching seasons of elections at various institutions, organizations and the country at large and it's attended short comings cannot be over emphasised.
"Unguided factionalism" is a serious matter which is destroying the youth of our country and suffocating the very development our country is seriously yearning for. The Collins English dictionary defines Factionalism as "the arguments or disputes between two or more small groups from within a larger group". The En English dictionary also defines it as " the splitting of a large group into functions".
My concern is not on the definition of the word "Factionalism", but the negative acts that accompany the word. As a democratic country, it's inevitable that we would surely have dissenting opinions in making decisions in respect to the election of our leaders, in respect to matters that must be prioritized.
But it's rather quiet unfortunate on what these various factions stood for and how the go about doing their things. We have had various testimonies on the various mayhems that were recorded in the country not only in the elections times, but the various local groups we have in our regions, municipalities and the districts spinning from religious bodies, tribal unions, political parties and various youth groups among other factions.
It's an incontrovertible fact that, as elections are approaching, the youth of of our country is going to misconduct themselves in various respects that will be undermining the very democratic exercise we are to undertake.
I am not against the division of the youth in our various communities but, what this division seeks to cause is what am concern off. This country has to loose gargantuan amount of money to prevent the outbreak of chaos before, during and after any national issue that needs decision to be made. Must we in the practice of democracy undermine its underlying principles? The statistical revelations of the various quagmires that has been perpetrated by these factions since military rule down this democratic dispensation is mind boggling and couldn't warrant cataloguing them here.
Politics in its official understanding is not a do and die affair. We the youth have allow ourselves to be remotely controlled by this stomach led politicians to incite us against one another to be fighting all in the name of helping them to win political power.
Indeed, it's unfathomable on what this particular political factionalism has done to our country. Because of politics, brothers have separated, because of politics, there is unending conflicts between various sections, because of politics, boundaries have been demarcated. My simply questions are even those advanced countries who practiced this long before we started it, are they behaving this way?, Can we substitute brotherhood for materialism?, Can we break family ties because of politics?, if any one thinks you can substitute any of those above questions for politics, you would only be jubilating in a fool paradise. We have come to meet politics, and we will go and leave politics.
Am not only going unilateral in my analysis, but rather macroscopic in form. Political spheres is not the only jurisdiction which has the red flag of this matter. Go to our various communities and see what's trending there. Gone at the days where the community was a very nice place for living has now outlived its usefulness as a unifying agent. Our great grandfathers would be greeted with shame and out most dismay if they could return and see the congenial environment they left behind has now been metamorphosis and transmuted into a place of discomfort and inhumane territory.
We now have various gangs in our communities, institutions, religious bodies pursuing self seeking agendas to the detriment of collectivism. What a Shame? Go to our various institutions of higher learning, there are sharp divisions on campus because of factionalism. Go to our various communities, there are some areas that cannot be visited by some people based on factionalism, go to our various religious areas, there are infighting and conflicts based on factionalism. For how long should we be blind folded and allow parochial people to use us to cause harm to ourselves?
As we would be heading to polls to exercise our democratic franchise ( whether at the national level, regional level, municipal level, district level or the school level), we must be circumspect and cautious of what we might engage ourselves into. We should rather be developmentally hungry and be objective in our actions rather than destructive. We should be wary of individual who would be pushing us to foment troubles.
Development is a concerted undertaking and cannot be achieved on "misguided factionalism". The nation's needs all hands on desk to be able to tackle our problems as a country. We must not lend ourselves to circumstances to manipulate us. We must see one another as one people regardless of our political colorations, religious beliefs, tribal union among other things. We must put this country first before any other thing, we must not tire ourselves onto factionalism that is unhealthy.
Factions as I know should be Advocates for transparency, accountability fairness and what's just. In the country, the Economic and organized crime office (EOCO), the imani think tank, the national parliament, the unit committee members, the students activists, the students parliament, the students legal society among other factions are some of the factions that are good and should be encouraged. But factions such as " Aluter boys", "Kandahar" boys, Occultism and various destructive groups in our communities are some of the factions we must wipe out.
I am not by this however insinuating that factions are not good, but factions which are not meant to fight for development but to rather cause division in our country should be banned. Factions are supposed to be liaisons to fight for positive change, factions are supposed to be resolutions fighters, factions are known by their good works.
