Our lady of mercy community services in Navrongo has organized it's 8th graduation ceremony in Navrongo for 51 graduands in dress making, weaving, soap and beads making etc and the Director of the school, Mr Emmanuel Atiiga took the opportunity to let the gathering know what is their core mandate. He said, our lady of mercy community services centre is complimenting government efforts of empowering underprivileged women and youth through literacy and non-formal education, employable skills training, women and children rights, advocacy, health issues and environmental concerns. 

He said it's sad that a well endowed country like Ghana can still be wallowing in porverty and hunger because we're not able to creatively think outside the box but talking and manipulating the English language is our strength and pride, yet we are hungry, we can't feed ourselves or our kids in school. Mr Emmanuel Atiiga added that, another negative attitude bring us backwards and underdevelopment especially in the upper East Region in our inter-tribal and clan conflicts killing ourselves some times because of land which we are not the creator and will eventually die one day and leave it and sadly we are indoctrinating our children and the youth to continue the same path . He said Ghana is not waiting for us neither the world is waiting for upper East Region, if we don't work together as one people, we will continue to lament whiles the rest of the world is moving on. We must invest in creating the enabling environment for SMEs to grow and employ others. Our lady of mercy community services centre started 2005 in Navrongo in Upper East Region and have been providing skills with start-up support over the years and this is it's 8th graduation with 51 graduands that have successfully completed their skills training on dressmaking, weaving, beads and soap making were given certificate, sewing and weaving machines and money to use as capital to start work immediately. The Director, urged them to be hard working,honest and good to their customers and make good use of the startup to enable them improve their lives adding that they will continue to support and mentoring them till the are able to be alone. 


The Kasena Nankana Municipal Chief Executive, Non. Joseph Adongo, who was a guest of honor, said there's the need to take vocational and Technical training seriously as this is the surest way to better our lots and called stakeholders to embrace our lady mercy community services centre and support it in its quest to compliment government efforts to reduce the unemployment situation in the municipality and the country as a whole. He commended our lady of mercy community services centre and its partners for their tireless efforts at ensuring that the women and girls get the requisite skills in weaving, beads, soap and dressmaking in order to better their lives. Mr Adongo added that, Nana Addo-led government recognizes the important role Technical and Vocational education and training play in nation building and is therefore committed to making it very attractive to our people by providing necessary infrastructure and logistics and also aligned all public Technical and Vocational education and training (TVET) institutions under the ministry of education to provide effective policy direction and co-odination in skills development . 

He said in that regard, the municipality has three Vocational and Technical institutes, nameless Kasena Nankana Technical institute, Navrongo Technical institute and St. Bernadette Technical and Vocational institute running various programs. He therefore appealed to parents and guardians not to force their wards in doing courses that they do not have interest in. He use the opportunity to urged the graduands to make good use of the support given to them and pledged the assembly support to them when they need arised.
