Give Back To Society When God Blesses You - Dominic Mbang I McBashMedia

A Deputy Mayor in the Royal Borough of Greenwich, Councilor Dr. Dominic Mbang has called on successful Ghanaians to make philanthropy a part of their lives.

According to Councilor Mbang, who has been elected for the second time, it is imperative for people to give back to the communities they come from as a way of bringing development to the doorsteps of every community and village in Ghana.

In what could be described as walking the talk, Councilor Mbang said he had to pull down the old dilapidated Kuka-Sulli Primary School which was constructed by the erstwhile Dr. Kwame Nkrumah's government and has since begun constructing a new one.

That structure, he explained had become a death trap to pupils and teachers of the community and needed replacement, adding, his decision to rebuild the school was an act of philanthropy and has nothing to do with a desire to enter into politics.

He was speaking in an interview with GBC news at Bugri Corner, a suburb of Bawku Municipality in the Upper East Region of Ghana during the first-ever congress of the National Union of Ghana students, Kusaug chapter.

The Congress brought together students from the various universities in Ghana who are within the Kusaug belt, with the ultimate goal of empowering and encouraging them to stay focused, calm and learn to achieve their dreams.

Call for Peace

Councilor Mbang appealed to the good people in the Kusaug Traditional Area to live in peace and unity with any other tribe and be proud of who they are and where they come from.

On his part, a former Member of Parliament for the Zebilla constituency and Senior Professor at the Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania in the United States of America, Prof George Agbango,  reiterated the urgent need for the youth to persevere in every area of endeavor.

He also emphasised the need for the youth to live in peace and unity and be supportive of each other.

On education, Prof Agbango added that education is the key to success and charged all parents and stakeholders to ensure every child goes to school.

Speaking at the Congress, an entrepreneur, Madam Joyce Jambeidu Apoasaan, challenged young girls to make education a priority rather than getting married to successful or rich men after senior high school.

This, according to her, is the only way women can also occupy key positions in the country and reduce the gender disparity across the political divide.

Mad Apoasan said women are not only home keepers but also peace lovers who need to be part of the decision-making process in the country.

Speaker after speaker at the event advised students to be ambassadors of peace in their schools and Communities at large. Prof Aaron Aboasi entreated the youth to also venture into farming and rearing because that is the quickest way of making wealth as well as making food available to their families.

The congress which was held at Mbang plaza was attended by students from the various universities in Ghana across the length and breadth of Kusaug kingdom with Councilor Dr. Dominic Mbang being the chairman for the occasion. They called on the government to take a second look at the conflict and find a lasting solution to the problem for peace, unity and development to prevail in the area.
