Bolga East: Robert Anovah Emerges As District Best Farmer In 38th Farmers Day Celebration.
Mr. Robert Anovah, a young enthusiastic farmer from Gambibigu has emerged as the District's best farmer in this year's 38th-day celebration in the Bolga East District of the Upper East Region of Ghana. Mr. Anovah who went home with a motorcycle, certificate and other prizes could not hide his joy and therefore appealed to the teeming unemployed youth to venture into farming.
The day which was celebrated at Agriculture park in Zuruangu was attended by traditional rulers, representatives of political parties, departmental heads as well stakeholders in the agricultural sector.
The best farmer for persons with a disability went to Nsobilla Atinaba from Nyorkokor while that of the best female district farmer position went to madam Juliana Atoriga. The best district poultry farmer position went to Atule Ayamga, with livestock going to Akulla Emmanuel.
The best Shea nut picker position went to madam Adadi Azinga , with Nsohyinne David winning the best youth farmer position in the Bolga East District.
The District Chief Executive for Bolga East, Hon David Amoah delivered his speech on this occasion and charged Ghanaians especially the youth to embrace farming since it is now a lucrative venture in order to enable them to take proper care of their families.
Mr. Amoah added that government flagship programmes planting for food and Jobs, one village, one dam and the subsidization of farming inputs are to enable more Ghanaians especially the youth attracted into the sector and therefore the urgent need for all to embrace it.
The Bolga East District Director of Agriculture, Madam Diana Akumanu on her part stated that, in as much as the planting for food and Jobs has encountered some challenges in its implementation, its gains cannot be underestimated. These include the cost of production, promotion of youth participation in agriculture, visibility to women in agriculture, promoted access to farm inputs, increase in crop yields and animal production and capacity building of technical officers.
Madam Diana Akumanu added that agriculture is the primary source of livelihood for over 65% of the district's population and contributes massively to the food security improvement of the district, region and the country as a whole.
She, therefore, called on the government to continue subsidizing certified seeds, fertilizer and introduce more modern farming technologies to make farming more attractive in Ghana.
