'Green Environmental Club' Launched To Plant 9,500 Seedling in Sissala East | mcbashmedia

 


As the saying goes, when the last tree dies the last man dies, this is an old saying which is still relevant today. Planting of trees is something which is championed by the president of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo-Addo and his minister for lands and natural resources, Hon. Samuel Abu Jinapor. Just recently the ministry of lands and natural resources minister led a Crusade to plan 20 million trees across the length and width of the country. 


The member of parliament for Sissala East Hon. Amidu Chinnia Issahaku took up this initiative to launch Kroboi club in the sissala East municipality dubbed, "Green Environment Club", these clubs will be dotted across all basic schools in the municipality. The member of Parliament said each school will be given 100 cashew seedlings and 30 mango seedlings to be planted at the school and within the community damp. He said when these seedlings grow well, the community can eat the friuts and sell the excesses.  


He said each member of the club will receive exercise books, pens, a mathematical set and further promised to award [With Computers, furniture, etc] any school that can get an 85% survival rate. The MP said there will be an inter-circuit quiz competition amongst schools on tree planting and other agricultural practices. The best circuits will compete live on radio for the municipal award. He said the office of the member of Parliament is providing 1,500 mango seedlings, 4,000 cashew seedlings and 4,000 seedlings from the forestry commission. 


The Municipal Chief Executive Hon. Yakubu Fuseini Batong who was also present at the launch had some remarks to make, he said he as the President's representative planted a tree and is pleading with the community members to try and plant a tree each. The MCE said he has not been sleeping about the challenges facing the community of Kroboi. 


According to him, efforts are far advanced to drill a borehole for the community and that he will follow up with the contractor to complete the CHIPS compound started some years back. He said the Northern Department Authority has allocated to camps for the municipality and Kroboi will get one. 


The Educational director for Sissala East municipality Mr. Charles Larweh used the occasion to praise the member of Parliament for all the support he gave to the directorate including renovation of the office, providing furniture, helping them train BECE students and lobbying to bring 3 vehicles to the municipality. The director said the idea of tree planting is very commendable and all must embrace it, he further used the opportunity to appeal to the member of parliament to establish KG centers in the municipality. He said lack of furniture is still a problem facing most schools and something must be done. 


The chief of Kroboi Kuoro Rtd. Woudah Seme who welcomed the member of Parliament and his entourage said he was happy his community school was chosen for the launch, he said he will also help talk to the teachers to monitor the trees to grow well. He also appealed to the member of Parliament to add shear butter since is the cocoa of the sissala people. 


The member of parliament was accompanied by The MCE Hon. Yakubu Fuseini Batong, the GES director Mr. Charles Larwer, deputy director Hon. Godfred Beveru Kanton(GOBIK), the Presiding member Hon. Doho Sumaila, the forestry commission officials, the  Circuit supervisor Mr. Basuglo Pentu Mohammed, and some other NPP functionaries.
