Chieftaincy Minister Calls On Zug-Rann I McBashmedia
The Minister of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Mr Stephen Asamoah Boateng, has paid a courtesy call on the Paramount Chief of the Kusaug Traditional Area, Naba Asigri Abugrago Azorka II.
The move was intended to find lasting solution to the crisis in the Bawku Municipality of the Upper East Region.
The Minister said the government of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) believed in the rule of law, and would, therefore, apply the law to bring lasting solution to the chieftaincy issue in the area.
Mr Boateng said the Ministry would work to ensure that peace was restored to the Bawku Municipality and its environs.
He noted that the Nayiri erred when he enskinned a rival Chief of Bawku, and indicated that during his recent visit to the Nayiri, he admitted that the move was wrong, and apologized accordingly.
He said the era of colonialism was over and that the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs had instructed the National House of Chiefs to work closely with him to restore the lost glory of the Kusaug Traditional Area.
Naba Azorka II on his part, said Kusasis were peace loving people, and would always live according to the tenets of the law.
He said it was time government acted on the happenings in the Traditional Area, rather than the usual lip service.
The Chief, who was flanked by 25 Divisional Chiefs in the Paramountcy, added that the killing of innocent people, especially women and children in Bawku was of concern, and reiterated calls on government to immediately intervene.
He wondered why the Mamprusis in Bawku disregarded the ruling of the Supreme Court without any action against them.
The Sector Minister was accompanied by members of the Upper East Regional Security Council (REGSEC), led by its Chair, Mr Stephen Yakubu, and some officials from the Ministry.
