Zebilla: NCCE Sensitized residents on Violent extremism I McBashMedia



Mr Muniru Alengah, the district director of National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) for the Bawku West District has indicated that local residents are the eyes and ears of their neighborhoods and can offer invaluable insights and early warnings about potential threats. He added that as patriotic Ghanaians, they should be wary of the activities of violent extremists in our neighboring countries such as Burkina Faso in which Bawku West District, most especially Kubougo community shares border with and take personal steps to safeguard the security of our communities.

Mr Alengah stress that all and sundry have to look out for strange and suspicious characters likely to cause violence in the society and swiftly report such persons to the appropriate authorities for investigations to help fight against violent extremism in Ghana. He stated this during an engagement with residents and various security services at Kubougo, a suburb of Zebilla in the Bawku West District of the Upper East Region. 


Former district director of NCCE for Builsa South, Alhaji Alhassan Bukari on his part praise the staff of National Commission for Civic Education in Zebilla for their commitment to duty on awareness creation on government policies and the heinous activities of violent extremism and radicalism in the district.

He hinted that promise and failed by politicians is a secret key factor igniting violent extremism and therefore called on political parties to be circumspect with their promises to electorates. He further revealed that violent extremism started in Nigeria some years ago due to the activities of politicians  where people were killed and women and children kidnapped.

"These people normally make friends with people in any community they intend to penetrate and money and sophisticated weapons of mass destruction is not a problem to them. Research has shown that most of these people are Fulanis " he added. 


The Bawku West District Director of Domestic Violence and iVctims sSupport U7nit of the Ghana Police Service, madam Veronica A. Abakem on her part stressed on the need for civilians to establish a cordial relationship with the police to enable them report suspected criminals with ease. She further added that accurate and concise reporting of suspected violent extremism will help curb the menace.

She further advice the youth to always dress decently in order not to be attracted by unscrupulous people.

Speaker after speaker at event charged residents of Kubougo to be one another's keeper and always report suspicious characters especially strangers in their vicinities. Dignitaries at the sensitization program included the Assembly Member for Kansoogo- Kubougo electoral area, Mr Mba Dennis Atule, a representative of Ghana Immigration Service, the Regent of Kubougo and  the Ghana Police Service.
